Ceilidh time

We’ve had a brilliant night at the ceilidh and were joined by Estonians, Germans, Portuguese, Swedes and even an Italian. In addition to all the traditional dances we managed to squeeze in a Swedish Masquerade, a Grongo and even some Portuguese bagpipes, an Estonian folk dance and a brilliant Highland dance from Alice.

That’s it from EuroscolaOnline – we’ve had a brilliant few days and the students have been absolutely fantastic and a credit to their families, schools, local authorities and to their Rotary Clubs. We’re all looking forward to getting back home tomorrow, but I’m sure everyone will keep in touch via Facebook! It’s a bit late now so we’ll say bonne nuit et merci à tous et à toutes!

Eurogame Final

Well done to Finlay whose team won the final of the Eurogame! What a day. On the programme for tonight we have dinner then our international ceilidh – we’re going to be joined by Germans, Portuguese and maybe an Estonian folk group! We’re going to be really busy tonight so there won’t be any further updates today!

We’re back in the hémicycle and we’re delighted to see that our students have been very active in the group discussions and of the six discussion groups, we have … six rapporteurs or presidents about to provide their feedback to the assembled students. Well done to Kirsty, Emma, Rebecca, Siobhan, Ewan and Ailie!

The Eurogame

Pendant l’heure de déjeuner tous les étudiants ont participé à un quiz au sujet de l’Europe et l’Union Européenne. Par contre ce n’était pas un quiz normal: chaque question était dans une langue différente! 18 questions – 18 langues! Les étudiants devaient trouver de nouveaux amis des autres pays representés aujourd’hui pour rendre le quiz un peu plus facile. Et ce n’était pas que les étudiants qui y ont participé: les profs aussi ont fait l’Eurogame. Voyons si quelqu’un a gagné…

During lunch the students participated in a quiz about Europe and the European Union. However it wasn’t a normal quiz: each question was in a different language: 18 questions – 18 languages! The students had to find new friends from the other countries represented today to make the quiz a bit easier. And it wasn’t just the students who participated: the teachers also did the Eurogame. We’ll soon see if anyone won…

La présentation écossaise

Aileen and Daniel did us proud in introducing the Scottish delegation to the assembled youth of Europe here in the hémicycle. After the presentations the students took part in a vote, giving their opinions on a variety of issues, and they’re now putting their questions to the representatives of the Parliament. Time for some lunch soon…

We were lucky enough to get a photo on the Escalier d’Honneur before the day began. This is the entrance that the most important visitors to the Parliament use, so it was quite appropriate for us to arrive this way!

Arriving at the Parliament

A few moments ago we arrived at the Louise Weiss building of the European Parliament here in Strasbourg, and with great excitement joined the queue of young people from across the continent waiting to enter the Parliament. All the students are really looking forward to the day and we look forward to updating you throughout with photos from the event.

Le défi de Strasbourg

Today the students took part in the Strasbourg Challenge. There were three parts to the challenge:

the cultural challenge: each group had to research a topic and then do a presentation in a style of their choice to teach the others about what they’d learned
the linguistic challenge: with the inspiration of Walk, Talk and Learn French, the students had to take a photo of an advert or poster in the town and then explain a grammar point included in the poster
the daft challenge: each group had to find the naffest souvenir in Strasbourg – quite a difficult task given the range of tacky objects available!

We were most impressed with the performances in our afternoon feedback session – as the photos will demonstrate there was a huge amount of creativity involved! Gerry also embraced his challenge and learned s tune on the tin whistle!
