Le compte à rebours a commencé!

Le compte à rebours a commencé!

The countdown has begun and on Saturday 20th February, students from across Scotland will meet at Edinburgh airport, ready to travel together to Strasbourg. The students will spend five days au carrefour de l’Europe, taking part in linguistic and cultural activities. The highlight of the visit is a day in the European Parliament when the students will work with young people from across Europe, discussing a range of issues which affect them in their daily lives.

This visit is sponsored by Rotary International, and the students have been selected to take part in the visit on the basis of competitions and presentations over the past few months.

Are you going on the visit?

If you’re taking part then you’ll already have received the information pack and you should be fully briefed on what to expect. Many of the students who are involved have already joined a Facebook group and are using this to help prepare for the visit, both in terms of preparing for the activities they’ll be undertaking, and planning wardrobes and who’s taking hairdryers, straighteners, etc! If you use Facebook and haven’t already joined the group, please do so now and introduce yourself to the other students!

Are you a parent / teacher / friend of someone taking part?

We’ll be updating this website every day with news and images from Strasbourg, so make sure you tune in regularly. You can post a comment on the blog and we’ll do our best to share the comments with the participating students each day. Please remember that the comments are public, though! Also, if you use Twitter, you can follow @euroscola on Twitter and keep up to date with our latest activities.

Reworking the website

We’re working on a new version of the Euroscola Online website which will be launching in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, why not join the Facebook Group which we’ve set up so that you can begin to get to know your fellow participants. You’ll need to request to join the group because we have to limit it for the time being to those participating. Just click on the “Join group…” link and we’ll get you set up.

What happens on a Euroscola day?

This short slideshow from a Euroscola day in 2003 shows what happens on the Euroscola day itself. You’ll begin by going into the restaurant of the députés where you’ll have the opportunity to meet young people from the other countries represented on the day. You’ll then move into the hémicycle where most of the events of the day will take place. You’ll listen to presentations and you’ll have the chance to vote on a number of discussions. You’ll take part in discussions in breakout areas, based on the topics you’ve been assigned. You’ll then return to the hémicycle for presentations and the final of the quiz.
